Promote Immunization Awareness Across the Western Pacific Region
Organizational Context
The World Health Organization (WHO) Regional Office for the Western Pacific (WPRO) works with 37 Member States and areas to improve health and well-being. WHO WPRO addresses infectious and noncommunicable diseases, environmental health, and emergency response. Immunization is a key public health intervention in the region. The 77th WHO Regional Committee session in Manila in October 2026 will focus on regional health priorities.
Job Purpose
This assignment aims to support WHO WPRO's regional immunization awareness campaign leading up to the October 2026 Regional Committee Meeting. Online Volunteers will raise awareness about the importance of immunization and encourage informed online conversations. The campaign will highlight WHO's regional immunization priorities through 2030, including measles and rubella elimination, reducing zero-dose children, strengthening life-course immunization, and increasing vaccine confidence. Volunteers will contribute to advocacy efforts by sharing information and fostering constructive dialogue on social media platforms.
Responsibilities
Online Volunteers will support WHO WPRO's regional immunization messaging campaign. Key duties include sharing 1-2 posts weekly on personal social media platforms, using provided evidence-based messages or creating original content inspired by them. Volunteers must participate in a mandatory virtual orientation and attend two virtual learning sessions on immunization, vaccine confidence, and health communication. They will encourage respectful online conversations, promote accurate health information, and track engagement activities. Volunteers will not provide medical advice. Optional Group Coordinator roles involve additional leadership and reporting responsibilities.
Work Experience
Required experience includes a strong understanding of social media platforms and the ability to communicate health information clearly and engagingly. Active presence on one or more social media platforms is essential. Desirable experience includes basic knowledge of online community engagement and responsible digital communication. Experience in public health, advocacy, communications, or social and behavioral change is an asset.
Skills
Key skills include strong understanding of social media platforms, clear and engaging communication of evidence-based health information, online community engagement, and responsible digital communication. Proficiency in written and verbal communication in English and/or local languages is required. Ability to work collaboratively and adhere to campaign guidance is essential. Demonstrated interest in public health, advocacy, or communications is beneficial.
