Organizational Context

The United Nations Development System, as redefined by General Assembly resolution 72/279, focuses on impartial, empowered, and sustainable development coordination. The Resident Coordinator system, comprising the UN Resident Coordinator, UN Country Team, and Resident Coordinator's Office, ensures coordinated operational activities for development at the country level. This role operates within this framework, leveraging the expertise of all UN development system entities to advance global development goals.

Job Purpose

The Associate Coordination Officer will support the Resident Coordinator and the UN Country Team in Suva, Fiji, to advance joint planning, coordination, and implementation of the UN Sustainable Development Cooperation Framework (UNSDCF) across Fiji, Solomon Islands, Tonga, Tuvalu, and Vanuatu. This position offers a unique opportunity to work at the core of UN system coordination, engaging with diverse stakeholders including UN entities, governments, regional organizations, development partners, and civil society. The incumbent will contribute to strategic initiatives, inter-agency processes, partnership development, policy dialogue, and regional cooperation efforts aimed at supporting sustainable development priorities in the Pacific region within a dynamic, multicultural environment.

Responsibilities

The Associate Coordination Officer will support UN Inter-Agency Coordination Processes by assisting with the organization and follow-up of UN Country Team meetings, preparing agendas and briefing materials, and facilitating communication among UN entities. They will also support the development and finalization of the UN Sustainable Development Cooperation Framework (UNSDCF) 2028-2032 by contributing to coordination processes, consolidating inputs, and supporting stakeholder engagement. Additionally, the role involves supporting the development of Country Implementation Plans (CIPs), monitoring their implementation, and preparing documentation for country-level coordination forums. The officer will provide substantive support to the Head of Office by preparing briefing notes and reports, and assisting with strategic meetings. Finally, they will contribute to Knowledge Management and Communications by organizing and disseminating coordination-related information and supporting the preparation of communication materials.

Work Experience

No prior experience is required. However, previous volunteer experience or experience in another culture (through studies, volunteer work, or internships) is highly regarded. Strong organizational, coordination, written and oral communication, interpersonal, and analytical skills are essential. Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications is also required.
