The UN in Sri Lanka focuses on peacebuilding, analyzing emerging risks like climate security and online hate speech, aligning with the Secretary-General's prevention agenda. Key instruments for advancing these priorities include the UN Sustainable Development Cooperation Framework (UNSDCF) 2023-2027 and the UN SDG Multi Partner Trust Fund, promoting integrated approaches and joint programming for Sustaining Peace and SDG 16.

Job Purpose

The Communications Assistant will support the UN Country Team (UNCG) in organizing a significant joint event with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to commemorate 80 years of the UN and 70 years of the UN-Sri Lanka Partnership. This role involves assisting with event planning, logistics, and liaising with government counterparts. Additionally, the incumbent will contribute to various joint communication initiatives, including the creation of visibility products, social media content, and web stories, all aligned with the UNCG's strategy and workplan to enhance the UN-Sri Lanka partnership and promote peacebuilding efforts.

Responsibilities

Support the UNCG in organizing a high-level event to commemorate 80 years of the UN and 70 years of Sri Lanka’s UN membership. Liaise with event management companies for planning, logistics, and implementation. Assist the UN's engagement with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and government counterparts for approvals and protocol. Prepare communications materials and visibility products for the event. Manage post-event communications, including social media, web stories, and content highlighting the UN-Sri Lanka partnership. Produce content, such as videos and social media posts, for joint UN communication products and hallmark observances. Coordinate the production of joint UN visibility materials and support the organization of a UN Day staff commemoration. Undertake other related duties in joint communication activities as assigned.

Work Experience

One month of experience is required, though no specific prior experience is mandatory. Essential skills include excellent interpersonal abilities for stakeholder collaboration, strong self-motivation for independent work under supervision, and proficiency in Microsoft Office applications. Familiarity with developing audiovisual content, basic graphic design, and video editing using tools like Canva is necessary. Experience in photography or videography is advantageous.
