Associate External Relations Officer
Organizational Context
The UNHCR, established in 1950, leads global efforts to protect refugees and resolve their issues, safeguarding their rights and well-being. In Bangladesh, over 1.2 million Rohingya refugees reside, facing worsening humanitarian conditions and declining funds. This protracted crisis necessitates strategic advocacy. The Associate External Relations Officer will join the Dhaka-based External Relations team, collaborating with Cox's Bazar and Communication teams to enhance outreach and stakeholder engagement.
Job Purpose
This role supports UNHCR's strategic advocacy in Bangladesh, a country hosting over 1.2 million Rohingya refugees amidst a protracted humanitarian crisis with declining funds. The Associate External Relations Officer will be part of the Dhaka-based External Relations team, working closely with colleagues in Cox's Bazar and the Communication team. The primary purpose is to assist in various external relations activities, including preparing communication materials and donor reports, and organizing outreach events. The incumbent will play a key role in increasing UNHCR's outreach capacity and engaging diverse stakeholders to effectively present UNHCR's work and advocate for refugee needs.
Responsibilities
The Associate External Relations Officer will report to the Senior External Relations Officer and undertake several key tasks. This includes monitoring operational developments to prepare briefings and reports, such as donor updates and internal sitreps. The role involves assisting in preparing funding submissions for donors and drafting after-action reports. Developing and maintaining working relationships with government bodies, NGOs, and UN agencies for inter-agency cooperation is crucial. The officer will support UNHCR's coordination role by managing meeting minutes and assisting in event organization. Additionally, the position requires supporting senior management with meeting preparations and drafting talking points, as well as assisting with organizing and accompanying missions for VIP visitors and delegates to refugee sites. Finally, the role involves supporting the Public Information team with press events, interviews, and other dissemination activities to promote UNHCR's work.
Work Experience
A minimum of 3 years of relevant experience is required, with a preference for prior experience in inter-agency coordination or external engagement within NGOs, the UN, or UNHCR. Proven experience in donor and stakeholder reporting, including high-quality drafting, is essential. Experience working on refugee-related matters or thematic areas is desirable.
