Organizational Context
The United Nations Mission in South Sudan (UNMISS) operates in a region facing threats to international peace and security. Its mandate, extended until March 2024, focuses on preventing civil war, building peace, and supporting inclusive governance and elections. UNMISS is leveraging technology to enhance its Protection of Civilians (POC) mandate, aligning with Security Council Resolution 2820, which prioritizes civilian protection and humanitarian aid.
Job Purpose
This role supports UNMISS's initiative to enhance its Protection of Civilians (POC) mandate through technological innovation. The volunteer will assist in developing and refining an online POC Reporting and Analysis Framework. This platform aims to improve information collection, analysis, situational awareness, and evidence-based decision-making. The volunteer's contribution will involve populating, refining, testing, documenting, and enhancing the platform to maximize its operational effectiveness and scalability, ultimately strengthening protection analysis and informed decision-making across the mission.
Responsibilities
The volunteer will support the operationalization and enhancement of the POC Reporting and Analysis Framework. Key responsibilities include: Database Development and System Enhancement: Reviewing and uploading historical reports, developing structured databases on protection incidents and threats, and recommending system improvements for usability and efficiency. Data Analysis and Visualization: Assisting in developing analytical dashboards and reporting products, strengthening trend analysis on protection incidents and population vulnerabilities, and creating visualizations to support decision-making. Documentation and Knowledge Management: Developing user manuals, guides, and SOPs, documenting system workflows, and recommending integration with existing mission mechanisms. Testing and Quality Assurance: Conducting user acceptance testing, identifying technical issues and data gaps, and providing recommendations for performance enhancement. Strategic Development and Innovation: Assessing opportunities for platform expansion and identifying innovative technologies to strengthen protection analysis.
Work Experience

Skills
Proficiency in English is required.
