Job Purpose

The WFP DRC seeks a Communication and Community Engagement Assistant to support its operations in Kananga and surrounding areas. This role is vital for ensuring affected populations understand WFP's mission and assistance modalities within the complex context of the DRC. The assistant will contribute to designing, implementing, and monitoring community engagement strategies, strengthening accountability to affected populations, and enhancing the visibility of WFP's interventions. The position requires fostering strong community engagement to ensure that WFP's programs are responsive to local needs and that community voices are integrated into decision-making processes.

Responsibilities

The Communication and Community Engagement Assistant will contribute to developing and implementing community communication strategies in WFP intervention areas. This includes promoting strong community engagement to ensure affected populations understand WFP's mission and assistance. The role involves establishing mechanisms to gather and integrate community voices, particularly from marginalized groups, into WFP's response plans. Regular assessments of community information needs will be conducted, identifying and leveraging local capacities like community radios and leaders to optimize information channels. The assistant will support the production of high-quality, adapted content for various communication channels and encourage inclusive participation in decision-making processes. Ensuring adherence to WFP's communication principles, facilitating dialogue between communities and humanitarian actors, and supporting training initiatives are key. Additionally, the role involves strengthening accountability mechanisms, collecting multimedia content for visibility, and performing other assigned tasks.

Work Experience

No prior experience is required. However, at least one year of professional experience in community engagement, programmatic activities, reporting, and communication is relevant. Experience in communication, advocacy, public information, disability inclusion, or other social inclusion aspects is beneficial.

Skills

Essential skills include strong written and oral communication abilities in French, organizational skills, a positive and dynamic attitude, and the ability to meet deadlines. Core competencies include accountability, humanity, inclusion, commitment, integrity, and collaboration. Familiarity with communication, advocacy, public information, and social inclusion aspects is also important.
