Support English to Chinese Translation of Partnership Documents
Organizational Context
The United Nations Volunteers (UNV) programme promotes peace and development through volunteerism globally. In China, the UNV Field Unit supports UNV's strategic priorities by engaging volunteers to assist the UN System and promote volunteerism for the 2030 Agenda. The UNV-CYVA Full-Funding Partnership, a collaboration between UNV, CYVA, and CICETE, has deployed over 180 Chinese UN Volunteers to UN agencies worldwide, supporting international development and cooperation.
Job Purpose
This role supports the UNV-CYVA Full-Funding Partnership by providing essential translation services for partnership documents. The Online Volunteers will translate Descriptions of Assignment (DoAs) from English to Chinese, consolidate and translate a summary form, and proofread key information. This work is crucial for facilitating the selection process for the new cohort of Chinese Youth Volunteers participating in overseas volunteering. Accurate and high-quality translations will ensure smooth coordination among stakeholders, effective communication, and promote the Sustainable Development Goals.
Responsibilities
The primary responsibility is to translate partnership documents for the UNV-CYVA Full Funding Partnership's new cohort. This includes translating approximately 100 Descriptions of Assignment (DoAs) from English into Chinese. Additionally, one volunteer will consolidate the collected DoAs into a summary form and translate it. Another volunteer will proofread the key information within the DoAs. All translations must be concise, accurate, and of high quality, adhering to relevant guidelines. Volunteers will be provided with source documents and guidance on the target audience and necessary support.
Work Experience
Candidates must be native Chinese speakers and fluent in English. Previous translation experience is considered an asset. Familiarity with technical terms in project management and education is advantageous. A passion for promoting volunteerism is also valued.
Skills
Fluency in both Chinese (native level) and English (working knowledge) is required. Strong translation and proofreading skills are essential. Familiarity with project management and education terminology is beneficial. A commitment to promoting volunteerism and supporting the Sustainable Development Goals is expected.
