Organizational Context
ONU Mujeres is the UN entity dedicated to gender equality and the empowerment of women. It leads and coordinates efforts within the UN system to ensure that gender equality commitments are translated into action. The organization works to accelerate progress for women and girls in areas such as leadership, economic empowerment, and ending violence, placing women's rights at the center of global progress. The Global Office of Excellence in Gender Statistics (CEEG) in Mexico, in partnership with INEGI, is a leading platform for innovation in gender statistics.
Job Purpose
This assignment supports the Global Office of Excellence in Gender Statistics (CEEG) of UN Women in Mexico by translating and editing technical documents from Spanish to English. The goal is to enhance the international visibility of CEEG's work, facilitate global participation, and improve technical cooperation. The volunteer will contribute to the dissemination of knowledge products, ensuring technical coherence, terminological accuracy, and institutional consistency with UN Women and UN System language. This role offers an opportunity to gain experience in institutional communication and deepen understanding of UN Women's work on gender data and statistics, particularly the Women Count project in Latin America and the Caribbean.
Responsibilities
The volunteer will translate, edit, and conceptually review five technical documents from Spanish to English, ensuring conceptual accuracy, terminological consistency, and adherence to UN Women's editorial standards. Documents cover geospatial statistics applied to femicidal violence and women's economic empowerment, as well as gaps in time-use and care quantification statistics. Responsibilities include ensuring logical content organization, normalizing editorial style according to UN Women and UN System standards, clarifying definitions and methodologies, ensuring consistency between executive summaries and technical content, and preparing texts for official reports and decision-making processes. The volunteer will collaborate on specific publications related to geospatial statistics for femicidal violence and economic empowerment, and on time-use and care statistics.
Work Experience
A minimum of two years of demonstrable experience in technical translation and editing of documents within international organizations, human rights, or sustainable development is required. Familiarity with UN terminology, particularly regarding gender equality, statistics, and public policies, is desirable.

Key competencies include analytical thinking, a structured approach, attention to detail, commitment to technical quality, terminological consistency, and conceptual accuracy. The volunteer must be autonomous, able to meet deadlines, committed to gender equality principles and human rights, and possess good communication and collaborative skills. Fluency in English and native-level Spanish are required.
