Organizational Context
ONU Mujeres is the UN entity dedicated to gender equality and the empowerment of women. It leads efforts to advance women's rights and well-being globally, focusing on leadership, economic empowerment, eradicating violence, and promoting peace and security. The Global Gender Statistics Centre of Excellence (GGSCE) collaborates with national statistical offices to enhance the production, analysis, and use of gender statistics, including emerging areas like care, gender-based violence, and climate change.
Job Purpose
This assignment supports the ONU Mujeres Global Gender Statistics Centre of Excellence (GGSCE) in Mexico by providing technical assistance for communication and data visualization. The goal is to strengthen the dissemination and strategic use of gender statistics. Volunteers will help translate complex statistical evidence into accessible language for diverse audiences, enhancing visibility and impact. This role offers a valuable opportunity to gain practical experience in data-driven institutional communication and understand ONU Mujeres' work in gender statistics.
Responsibilities
Two volunteers will provide technical support to the ONU Mujeres GGSCE in Mexico, developing draft analytical and communication materials to enhance the dissemination and use of gender statistics. Responsibilities include identifying key results and messages, creating draft graphic materials for digital platforms, and proposing dissemination plans tailored to different audiences (public sector, private sector, academia, general public). Volunteers will work under the supervision of the GGSCE Coordinator, collaborating with ONU Mujeres Mexico's technical and communications teams. The assignment is structured into two complementary profiles: Visual Support and Graphic Systematization (creating graphic materials, translating technical content, supporting dissemination proposals) and Analytical and Narrative Support (mapping potential audiences, developing a communication document, drafting impact stories). Common tasks include participating in coordination meetings, cross-reviewing materials, and utilizing design tools like Canva or Adobe.
Work Experience
Required experience includes a university degree in Communication or a related field, and experience in Data Visualization or related areas. Experience in designing communication strategies based on evidence or data is also required. A Master's degree in Communication or Advertising is desirable.
Skills
Key competencies include analytical, structured, and results-oriented thinking. The ability to translate technical and statistical information into clear, attractive visual narratives is essential. Volunteers should demonstrate autonomy, the capacity to manage deliverables with deadlines, and a commitment to gender equality, human rights, and an intersectional approach. Excellent written and visual communication skills, along with the ability to work collaboratively in multidisciplinary teams, are also required.
