Organizational Context
UNICEF, established in 1946 and a permanent UN agency since 1953, is dedicated to upholding the rights of all children, especially the most vulnerable. Working in Mexico since 1954, UNICEF collaborates with government, civil society, and the private sector to ensure children's rights are guaranteed. The 2026-2031 Country Programme prioritizes strengthening protection systems against violence and enhancing evidence generation for policy development. This role supports a joint initiative with INEGI to improve statistical measurement of violence against children.
Job Purpose
This role supports UNICEF Mexico's collaboration with INEGI to strengthen the measurement of violence against children and adolescents (NNA). The assignment focuses on enhancing the ethical, methodological, and conceptual frameworks for statistical data collection on NNA violence. The volunteer will contribute to developing robust statistical instruments and methodologies aligned with international standards and child protection principles. The objective is to improve the availability of specialized, comparable, and methodologically sound statistical information to better understand and address the various forms of violence affecting children and adolescents in Mexico, thereby informing institutional responses and policy design.
Responsibilities
Under the supervision of UNICEF Mexico's National Information Management Officer and in coordination with INEGI, the UN Volunteer will support the implementation of the UNICEF-INEGI 2026 Work Plan. Key responsibilities include strengthening the ethical and child protection framework for data collection on violence against NNA by analyzing international standards and protocols, contributing to technical documents on ethical procedures and risk matrices, and developing materials to safeguard children's rights during data collection. The volunteer will also participate in technical meetings and systematize information. Additionally, the role involves strengthening the methodological aspects of the data collection instrument by analyzing international methodologies, contributing to the development and review of methodological documents, and systematizing technical recommendations for instrument improvement, including considerations for pilot testing.
Work Experience
Requires 3 years of experience in quantitative and/or qualitative research methodologies, technical document preparation, reporting, and analytical writing. Experience in designing data collection instruments or data analysis is beneficial. Desired experience includes work related to measuring violence against children, research ethics, data protection, or child rights approaches. Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and strong analytical, organizational, and collaborative skills are expected.
