Organizational Context
The Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) is a UN agency dedicated to ending hunger and promoting food security. In the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), FAO supports the government in developing policies and programs for agriculture, fisheries, and forestry, focusing on sustainable resource use and addressing malnutrition. The UN Volunteers (UNV) program is piloting an initiative to include indigenous peoples through volunteerism, deploying UN Volunteers to agencies like FAO, which works closely with local communities.
Job Purpose
The UN Volunteer will support the FAO Representation in the DRC, contributing to the Sustainable Development Goals and FAO's Strategic Framework. The role is crucial for transforming agri-food systems towards greater efficiency, inclusivity, resilience, and sustainability, ultimately improving production, nutrition, the environment, and livelihoods for all. The volunteer will be based at the FAO Representation office in Kinshasa, assisting in the implementation of field programs related to food security, agriculture, and rural development, and supporting the broader UNV initiative for indigenous peoples' inclusion.
Responsibilities
The UN Volunteer will provide essential office support and management functions, ensuring smooth workflow and information dissemination by setting priorities and organizing daily tasks. This role requires a thorough understanding and application of office policies and procedures, providing guidance to staff. Key duties include managing financial records, processing payments, reconciling accounts, and overseeing petty cash. The volunteer will collect, input, and analyze data, verify accuracy, and perform calculations. Responsibilities also involve checking fund availability, ensuring operational disbursements align with budgets, and preparing administrative and financial correspondence. Maintaining detailed budget forecasts, preparing financial data for planning, and producing budget status reports are essential. The role includes managing local inventory records, maintaining filing systems, liaising with local banks, and supporting the adoption of new IT tools. Assistance with personnel and equipment administration is also required, impacting the overall efficiency of the administrative unit.
Work Experience
No prior experience is required. However, one year of relevant experience is desirable. Proficiency in communication tools like Outlook is essential. Experience with UN agencies or international NGOs is a plus. Familiarity with computer applications such as Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook is beneficial.
