The Finance Assistant provides effective support to the office's financial management, ensuring operations are reliable, accurate, and compliant with regulations.

Job Purpose

The Finance Assistant will support UN Women's mission in the Democratic Republic of the Congo by ensuring the reliability, accuracy, and compliance of financial operations. This role is crucial for maintaining transparency and efficiency in financial management, contributing to the effective implementation of gender equality initiatives. The incumbent will assist in operational strategies, financial accounting, treasury management, and cost recovery, directly impacting the organization's ability to achieve its objectives in human rights, development, humanitarian action, peace, and security.

Responsibilities

The Finance Assistant will support operational strategies by ensuring adherence to UN Women's financial procedures and policies, contributing to internal control improvements, and assisting in work plan and budget preparation and monitoring. In financial and accounting management, duties include preparing and verifying supporting documents, controlling payment requests, ensuring rigorous recording of financial transactions, producing financial reports, and maintaining an effective document filing system. For treasury management, the role involves maintaining daily financial transaction records and monitoring advance-related expenses. The assistant will also contribute to cost recovery by supporting the setup and updating of the cost recovery system and participating in invoice establishment and follow-up. Finally, the role includes participating in knowledge sharing within the team.

Work Experience

Requires 1 month of experience, with 1 year of relevant experience preferred. A minimum of 2 years of experience in Finance and Accounting is needed. Proficiency in computer use and management software (MS Word, Excel, etc.) is also required.
