Organizational Context
The UN Resident Coordinator's Office (UNRCO) in Zimbabwe supports the UN Country Team (UNCT) in coordinating development programmes aligned with the UNSDCF. The RC leads UN efforts, acting as the primary interlocutor with the government and overseeing joint communications, advocacy, and resource mobilization. UNRCO Zimbabwe is supporting the MEL Week 2026, an event focused on evidence-based decision-making, M&E systems, digital transformation, and learning for public sector service delivery and sustainable development.
Job Purpose
This role supports the second edition of the Zimbabwe Monitoring, Evaluation and Learning (MEL) Week 2026, an event organized by the Office of the President and Cabinet. The purpose is to enhance evidence-based decision-making, strengthen M&E systems, advance digital transformation, and facilitate learning for improved public sector service delivery and sustainable development outcomes. The Online Volunteer will contribute to advocacy, awareness creation, stakeholder engagement, and overall visibility of the event before, during, and after its duration, ensuring effective communication and knowledge sharing among participating government institutions, UN agencies, academia, and development partners.
Responsibilities
The Online Volunteer will support digital advocacy, communications, visibility, and knowledge management for MEL Week 2026. Key tasks include drafting promotional messages and awareness content for social media platforms (Facebook, X, LinkedIn, WhatsApp), developing social media hashtags and engagement strategies, and preparing daily event highlights and summaries. The volunteer will also draft social media posts on key session messages, support live digital coverage and online stakeholder engagement, and compile quotes, success stories, and lessons learned. Specific duties during the Official Opening Ceremony involve preparing social media kits, drafting posts for dignitaries, creating content on the event's theme, and providing live updates and real-time social media content on various aspects of the ceremony, including exhibition tours and key addresses. Deliverables include a photo story, stakeholder engagement report, event visibility report, social media analytics report, and a final knowledge and communications package.
Work Experience
Experience is required in communications, media, public relations, M&E knowledge management, journalism, or digital marketing. Experience producing social media and digital content is essential. Graphic design skills using tools like Canva or Adobe Express are an asset. Prior experience supporting conferences, workshops, or development events is desirable.
Skills
Required skills include excellent English writing and editing abilities. Proficiency in communications, media, public relations, M&E knowledge management, journalism, and digital marketing is necessary. Experience with social media content creation and engagement strategies is crucial. Graphic design skills are considered an asset. A strong interest in monitoring, evaluation, learning, SDGs, and development programming is also valued.
