Organizational Context
The UN Resident Coordinator's Office (UNRCO) in Egypt supports the UN Country Team (UNCT) in coordinating UN development activities and aligning them with national priorities, including Egypt's Vision 2030 and the SDGs. Operating in a complex environment marked by regional conflicts and economic challenges, the UNRCO provides strategic advisory services to ensure coherent implementation of the UN Sustainable Development Cooperation Framework (UNSDCF) and to advance cross-cutting SDG initiatives.
Job Purpose
This Associate Officer position within the UN Resident Coordinator's Office (UNRCO) in Egypt aims to support the UN Secretary-General's representative in guiding the UN's development engagement. The role involves close collaboration with the Head of RCO to assist in programme design, implementation, analysis, and policy engagement. Key focus areas include governance, inclusion of migrants and refugees, human rights, transparency, rule of law, the humanitarian-development-peace nexus, Women, Peace and Security (WPS), and Youth, Peace, and Security (YPS), contributing to the effective delivery of the UNSDCF and the 2030 Agenda.
Responsibilities
Under the direct supervision of the Head of RCO, the UN Volunteer will support the design, coordination, and implementation of joint programmes, with a particular focus on migrants and refugees, human rights, and the humanitarian-development-peace nexus. Responsibilities include preparing presentations, briefs, and reports for the UNCT, mapping and identifying key stakeholders, and assisting in the development of talking points and speeches. The role also encompasses carrying out other functions as assigned by the supervisor to ensure the effective functioning of the RCO and the UNCT's objectives.
Work Experience
Requires at least 6 months of professional or volunteer experience in international relations or international development. Experience within the UN or other international organizations is an asset. Proficiency in English, excellent drafting and reporting skills, and strong interpersonal abilities are essential. Familiarity with communication for development tools, adaptability in challenging environments, and computer literacy are also required.
