Organizational Context

The World Health Organization (WHO) is the United Nations' directing and coordinating authority for public health. WHO EMRO has established the AIDERS Community of Practice (CoP) on the WHO Collaboratory to promote the practical and responsible use of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in emergency situations, including surveillance, response, and operational decision-making. This initiative aims to foster collaboration and knowledge sharing among professionals in this critical field.

Job Purpose

This role supports the AIDERS Community of Practice (CoP) for an 8-week operational push to ensure consistent daily activity and growth in membership and participation. The volunteer will assist in the execution and moderation of engagement and working group activities, working closely with WHO CoP coordinators and technical leads. While WHO staff retain all technical direction, content approval, and final decision-making authority, the volunteer plays a crucial role in implementing and coordinating the CoP's processes and activities, including multimedia content creation.

Responsibilities

The volunteer will manage daily CoP operations for 8 weeks, including platform moderation (twice daily on weekdays, responding within 24 hours), member onboarding (welcome messages and orientation within 48 hours), and community hygiene (maintaining pinned posts, updating links, escalating issues). Responsibilities also include monitoring and reporting, providing weekly metrics updates every Friday covering new/total members, active members, engagement levels, top threads, and identified issues/risks with proposed mitigations, along with the plan for the following week. The role requires clear writing, comfort with AI concepts in emergencies, and timely delivery of structured outputs.

Work Experience

Required experience includes supporting an online community (e.g., forum, Teams, Collaboratory) by welcoming members, moderating posts, and maintaining active discussions. Experience in writing clear, concise posts and weekly summaries for diverse audiences is essential. Familiarity with using AI tools for drafting/summarizing and understanding their limitations is also required, along with experience in organizing work using simple trackers and calendars, and collaborating with technical leads.

Skills

Key skills include strong community management, clear writing, and comfort with AI concepts in emergency settings. The ability to deliver structured outputs on schedule is crucial. Experience in moderating online platforms, onboarding new members, and maintaining community hygiene is necessary. Proficiency in using AI tools for content generation and summarization, along with organizational skills for tracking progress and reporting, is also required. Fluency in English is desirable.
