Support Research to the United Nations Common Analyses for Micronesia
Organizational Context
The UN Multi-Country Resident Coordinator’s Office (MCO) for Micronesia operates in five Pacific small island developing States. It focuses on strategic planning, joint analyses, communications, partnerships, and development finance to advance the 2030 Agenda and SDGs. The MCO promotes UN normative values, including gender equality, human rights, environmental sustainability, and leaving no one behind, within its operating environment.
Job Purpose
This role supports the UN Multi-Country Resident Coordinator’s Office (MCO) in Micronesia by contributing to research and analysis for the recurrent/annual Common Analyses of five Micronesian countries. The Online Volunteer will provide substantive, desk-based research and analytical inputs under the guidance of an Economist. This assignment is crucial for enhancing the MCO's strategic planning and reporting capabilities, directly contributing to the effective delivery of the 2030 Agenda and SDGs in the region. The expected output includes detailed research reports and analytical contributions to UN policy papers.
Responsibilities
The Online Volunteer will conduct background research and literature reviews, drafting relevant research inputs. Responsibilities include collecting, reviewing, and analyzing data and other materials to support research projects. The volunteer will contribute research and analytical insights to United Nations policy reports and papers, and assist in the preparation and development of United Nations Country Analyses (CAs). Each volunteer is expected to produce approximately 20-30 pages of desk-based research and analytical content, tailored to an agreed research topic and MCO guidance.
Work Experience
While no specific prior work experience is mandated, candidates are expected to possess strong research, analytical, writing, editing, and proofreading skills. Experience or familiarity with the Asia-Pacific region is desirable. Additional advantages include experience with data science, information management, artificial intelligence, climate change, environmental issues, disability and social inclusion, transport, mobility, or energy.
