Graphic Design Support for Visualizing Achievements
Organizational Context
The United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) is the UN's lead agency for international development, working in 170 countries to eradicate poverty and reduce inequality. The UNDP Sub-Regional Hub for West and Central Africa (WACA), based in Dakar, Senegal, focuses on strengthening resilience and sustainable development in the Sahel and WACA region. It supports 24 UNDP Country Offices and facilitates partnerships with regional institutions, aiming to accelerate the implementation of regional initiatives in areas like governance, youth, renewable energy, climate action, and livelihoods.
Job Purpose
This role supports the Regional Stabilization Facility (RSF) in visualizing its achievements through graphic design. The RSF, active since 2019 in the Lake Chad Basin, is coordinated from Dakar and works on stabilization, recovery, and resilience strategies. The graphic designer will be responsible for designing several key knowledge products, including lessons learned papers and fact sheets, which are currently being finalized in English and will be translated into French. The assignment aims to enhance the visibility of successful interventions by creating visually appealing and informative documents, utilizing provided logos and photos, and adhering to corporate design guidelines.
Responsibilities
Under the guidance of the Regional Programme Specialist and in collaboration with the communications team, the graphic designer will produce design proposals and develop final designs according to agreed requirements. This involves creating draft designs, discussing them with the focal point and communications team, and ensuring the final layout adheres to corporate design guidelines. The role offers an opportunity to build connections with Policy and Communications teams and learn how graphic design contributes to the visibility of successful interventions. The volunteer will be responsible for designing English versions of documents over the next three months, with potential for French versions later.
Work Experience
Professional experience in graphic design is required, with a specific emphasis on designing document layouts. Candidates must possess in-depth knowledge of graphic design applications. Good verbal and written communication skills are also necessary.
Skills
Proficiency in graphic design applications, experience in document layout design, strong verbal and written communication skills, and the ability to adhere to corporate design guidelines are essential. Fluency in English is required, and fluency in French is also required.
