Gender/GBV Programme Officer
Organizational Context
UNFPA, the United Nations sexual and reproductive health agency, operates in Myanmar with a 40-year history. Its mission is to ensure every pregnancy is wanted, every childbirth is safe, and every young person's potential is fulfilled. UNFPA focuses on achieving three transformative results: ending preventable maternal deaths, unmet need for family planning, and gender-based violence (GBV). The UNV will support the current country programme (2018-2025), focusing on strengthening capacities to prevent and mitigate GBV, especially among marginalized groups.
Job Purpose
The International UN Volunteer will provide crucial technical, operational, and coordination support to UNFPA's Gender/GBV programme in Myanmar. This role is integral to achieving Outcome 3 of the country programme, which aims to enhance multi-sectoral, rights-based policies and interventions for GBV prevention and mitigation. The volunteer will also support GBV sub-cluster/working groups and the Gender in Humanitarian Action working group, co-led by UNFPA. The position requires collaboration with implementing partners and participation in inter-agency platforms to ensure GBV priorities are addressed and mainstreamed across various programmatic areas and humanitarian clusters. Travel to different UNFPA office locations may be required.
Responsibilities
The International UN Volunteer will manage and support the timely and quality implementation of UNFPA's Gender/GBV programme, including managing implementing partners and conducting field monitoring visits. Responsibilities include reviewing partner work plans and reports, developing GBViE fact sheets, and coordinating the collection of human-interest stories and documentation to highlight programme impact. The role involves reviewing community feedback to identify improvements in GBV programming, particularly concerning risk mitigation and disability inclusion. The volunteer will also support the coordination of the GBVIMS Task Force and the Gender in Humanitarian Action Working Group, representing UNFPA in inter-agency platforms. Additionally, the position contributes to proposal development, resource mobilization, and provides operational support to ensure smooth delivery of GBV interventions, while upholding safeguarding and PSEA compliance.
Work Experience
Requires a minimum of three years of relevant professional experience, specifically in gender equality and empowerment of women, as well as programme/project management. Experience in disability inclusion and emergency preparedness/crisis response is desirable.
