Logistics/Supply Officer
Organizational Context
MONUSCO, established in 1999 under the UN Department of Peacekeeping Operations, supports the Democratic Republic of the Congo's efforts in civilian protection and stabilization. This involves reducing threats from armed groups, combating violence, and fostering accountable state institutions. The mission also aims to improve understanding of human rights and humanitarian law violations, informing policy and decision-making for security force vetting and operational planning.
Job Purpose
The Logistics/Supply Officer will support the Chief Integrated Warehouse (IW) by managing inbound shipments, advising on resource needs, and coordinating logistics operations. This role involves tracking contracts and purchase orders, liaising with movement control and transport units for timely cargo delivery, and ensuring efficient utilization of transport resources. The officer will analyze resource requirements, prepare warehouses for incoming goods, and provide regular reports on supply chain activities, including inventory status and distribution plans.
Responsibilities
Key duties include monitoring inbound shipments and advising on warehouse resource requirements such as manpower and Material Handling Equipment (MHE). The role involves tracking contracts and Purchase Orders (POs) with Procurement, and coordinating daily with Movement Control and Transport Units for efficient cargo movement. The officer will analyze resource needs, including MHE and contractors, and prepare warehouses for incoming goods. Responsibilities extend to submitting regular supply chain operation reports, maintaining movement tracking boards, and developing transaction history files using tools like SAP/UMOJA. The role requires conducting inventory performance analyses, managing asset control procedures, verifying data accuracy in asset and inventory management systems, and monitoring stock levels. Capacity development of national staff and partners through coaching and training is also encouraged. The officer will perform other related tasks as assigned.
Work Experience
A minimum of 3 years of relevant working experience is required in areas such as property management, warehousing, inventory management and control systems, and receipts and inspections. Experience in private industry or governmental organizations is applicable. Knowledge of UN field asset management policies and procedures is desirable.
