Research and Synthesize Evidence on AI and the Future of Work in Moldova
Organizational Context
The United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), established in 1965, is the UN's global development network operating in nearly 170 countries. Its mission is to eradicate poverty, reduce inequalities, and build resilience. The Istanbul Regional Hub (IRH) serves as UNDP's primary knowledge and advisory center for the Europe and Central Asia region. UNDP Moldova, supported by the IRH, is investigating the impact of artificial intelligence on work, skills, and economic opportunities in Moldova.
Job Purpose
This role supports UNDP Moldova's initiative to analyze the evolving landscape of work due to artificial intelligence (AI). The objective is to inform a Green Paper and policy dialogue, preparing Moldova for AI adoption. The assignment focuses on understanding how AI interacts with Moldova's specific context, including labor shortages, migration, and digital transformation. The Online Volunteer will research and synthesize evidence to identify credible findings, distinguish emerging trends, and translate them into actionable policy implications, ensuring AI's benefits are shared broadly while mitigating risks of exclusion and loss of worker agency.
Responsibilities
The Online Volunteer will draft and revise a Green Paper on artificial intelligence, work, and young people in Moldova under UNDP guidance. Key tasks include reviewing existing research, developing a narrative connecting Moldova's context with AI's impact on work and youth, and drafting the paper in clear, policy-relevant English. This involves synthesizing evidence on changing tasks, youth employment transitions, AI literacy, labor market dynamics, SME productivity, public sector work, inclusion, and EU alignment. The volunteer will conduct targeted research, maintain accurate citations, distinguish evidence from interpretation, and translate analysis into policy choices and consultation questions. The role also includes editing for coherence and revising based on feedback, culminating in a 10-15 page draft Green Paper.
Work Experience
Experience in public policy, economics, labour economics, sociology, development studies, European studies, political science, public administration, education and skills policy, technology policy, digital transformation, or AI governance is required. Desirable experience includes policy or socio-economic research, labour markets, youth employment, inclusive growth, digital transformation, technology policy, responsible AI, Moldova-focused or European integration research, or preparing analytical briefs and literature reviews.
Skills
Candidates must possess strong desk research and analytical skills, the ability to assess source credibility and manage references carefully, and clear, concise, well-structured writing in English. Proficiency in synthesizing complex evidence into policy-relevant findings is essential. Familiarity with Moldova's social, economic, or policy context is beneficial. Strong self-organization, the ability to meet online milestones, and collaborative skills for responding constructively to feedback are also required. Experience analyzing AI and work is an advantage.
