UNFPA is the United Nations sexual and reproductive health agency, committed to a world where every pregnancy is wanted, every childbirth is safe, and every young person's potential is fulfilled. In Burundi, UNFPA is implementing its 9th Cooperation Programme (2024-2027), focusing on improving reproductive health services, combating discriminatory social and gender norms, enhancing youth skills, and strengthening data utilization for national planning. To support its "Tremplin du Savoir Professionnel" internship program, UNFPA Burundi seeks to recruit online professional guidance volunteers to mentor interns.
Job Purpose
This role serves to mentor interns within UNFPA Burundi's "Tremplin du Savoir Professionnel" internship program. The mentor will provide comprehensive guidance to help interns navigate their professional development and career plans within the UN system, specifically focusing on Information and Communication Technology (ICT). The objective is to offer interns a complete support package, including immersion into the UN system and UNV program, to maximize their learning experience. The mentor will facilitate their understanding of UNFPA's work and ICT-related activities, ensuring they gain practical experience and insights into best practices, thereby contributing to their professional growth and the achievement of UNFPA's transformative results.
Responsibilities
The mentor will guide the intern in understanding UNFPA Burundi's general operations and specific ICT-related tasks. Key responsibilities include assisting the intern in conducting research within the ICT domain, documenting activities, and sharing best practices. The mentor will also support the intern in providing first-level technical assistance to users, including computer installation and configuration, and troubleshooting common issues. Furthermore, the mentor will encourage innovation, involve the intern in program implementation activities such as workshops and seminars, and support digitalization and electronic archiving efforts. Assistance with internal network connectivity problems and maintenance/updates of IT equipment (computers, printers, routers) are also expected. The mentor will ensure internet and network service availability and support online meetings, while also providing assistance in other areas as needed.
Work Experience
While specific years of experience are not detailed, the role requires a strong foundation in Information and Communication Technology (ICT) or related fields, evidenced by a Master's degree. Experience in providing technical assistance, research, documentation, and potentially project administration or management is beneficial. Familiarity with IT equipment maintenance and network support is also relevant.
Skills
The ideal candidate will possess strong interpersonal skills, flexibility, and an openness to learning and new experiences. A respect for diversity and adaptability to different cultures and environments is essential. Fluency in French and Kirundi is required, with working knowledge of English being desirable. Basic knowledge of administration and project management, along with proficiency in common IT tools (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, social media), is necessary. The ability to conduct research, document findings, and provide technical support is also key.
