UNFPA is the United Nations sexual and reproductive health agency, committed to a world where every pregnancy is wanted, every childbirth is safe, and every young person's potential is fulfilled. In Burundi, UNFPA is implementing its 9th Cooperation Programme (2024-2027), focusing on improving reproductive health services, combating gender discrimination, empowering youth, and enhancing data utilization for national planning. To support its youth internship program, UNFPA-Burundi seeks to recruit online volunteer mentors.
Job Purpose
This role aims to provide comprehensive professional guidance and mentorship to interns within UNFPA-Burundi's "Tremplin du Savoir Professionnel" internship program. The mentor will facilitate interns' understanding of UNFPA's work, particularly in Population and Development, and support their professional development. This includes guiding them through key thematic areas, data analysis, project monitoring, and reporting. The objective is to enhance the interns' learning experience, equip them with practical skills, and contribute to the successful implementation of UNFPA's 9th Cooperation Programme by fostering a supportive and educational environment.
Responsibilities
The mentor will guide interns in understanding Population and Development themes, including population structure, demographic dependency, data collection methods (surveys, censuses), climate change, demographic dividend, migration, and urbanization. Responsibilities include assisting in establishing an integrated database for program monitoring, supporting data analysis for reproductive health, family planning, adolescent health, and gender-based violence (GBV) prevention. The mentor will contribute to program monitoring, communication, and results reporting, conduct literature reviews on best practices in reproductive health, family planning, adolescent health, and GBV, and provide timely, quality contributions to donor reports. Additionally, the mentor will produce statistical analyses linking UNFPA's mandate with demographic dynamics and collaborate with IT colleagues for real-time data publication.
Work Experience
While specific years of experience are not detailed, the role requires a strong academic background (Master's level) in Demography, Population, or Development. Desirable experience includes basic knowledge of administration and project management, as well as proficiency in computer applications like Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and social media. Fluency in French and Kirundi is required, with working knowledge of English being desirable.
