UNFPA Burundi is implementing its 9th Cooperation Programme (2024-2027), focusing on improving reproductive health services, combating discriminatory social and gender norms, enhancing youth capabilities, and strengthening data utilization for national planning to achieve UNFPA's transformative results.
Job Purpose
This role supports UNFPA Burundi's "Tremplin du Savoir Professionnel" internship program, launched in 2024 for young people. The mentor will provide comprehensive guidance to interns, aiding their professional career development and immersion into the UN system. The objective is to leverage the UNV program by recruiting online professional orientation advisors to support interns. This specific mentor will guide interns assigned to the UNFPA Burundi Representation, offering mentorship, coaching, and one-on-one support to enhance their understanding and contribution to family planning and maternal health initiatives.
Responsibilities
The mentor will guide interns in familiarizing themselves with UNFPA Burundi's work, particularly in Family Planning and Maternal Health. Key duties include: - Educating interns on family planning, maternal health, obstetric fistula prevention and care, and STI/HIV prevention. - Supporting the promotion of STI/HIV prevention among adolescents and youth. - Encouraging innovative approaches to accelerate UNFPA's three transformative results: zero preventable maternal deaths, zero unmet need for family planning, and zero gender-based violence. - Developing interns' communication skills for sensitive topics, ensuring respect for individual rights and informed choices in family planning. - Assisting in documenting best practices and evidence-based reporting for decision-making in quality health services. - Facilitating participation in research and evaluation projects on family planning and maternal health best practices. - Enhancing interns' data collection and analysis skills for service improvement. - Supporting discussions and activities promoting favorable policies and practices in SR/FP/MNH. - Providing support in other areas as needed and contributing to communication materials. - Ensuring monthly progress reports and planning for the following month.
Work Experience
While specific years of experience are not detailed, the role requires a Master's degree or equivalent in Family Planning, Maternal Health, or a related field. Desirable experience includes strong interpersonal skills, flexibility, adaptability, cultural sensitivity, and proficiency in French, English, and Kirundi.
