UNFPA is the United Nations sexual and reproductive health agency, committed to a world where every pregnancy is wanted, every childbirth is safe, and every young person's potential is fulfilled. In Burundi, UNFPA is implementing its 9th Cooperation Programme (2024-2027), focusing on improving reproductive healthcare, combating discriminatory social and gender norms, enhancing youth skills and capacities, and strengthening data utilization for national planning. To support youth development, UNFPA Burundi has launched a professional internship program, requiring mentors to guide interns.
Job Purpose
This role serves to mentor interns within UNFPA Burundi's "Tremplin du Savoir Professionnel" internship program. The mentor will provide comprehensive guidance to interns as they navigate their professional career plans and gain immersion into the UN system. The objective is to ensure interns fully benefit from the UNV program by receiving expert advice and support. The assignment focuses on mentorship, coaching, and one-on-one support, contributing to the professional development of young individuals and aligning with UNFPA's mission to empower youth and fulfill their potential.
Responsibilities
The mentor will guide interns in understanding UNFPA Burundi's work, particularly in the areas of Youth and Adolescents. Key duties include supporting interns in engaging with specific fields such as sexual and reproductive rights, youth leadership and participation, and youth employability. The mentor will facilitate participation in training and capacity-building activities, assist in program implementation including organizing workshops and seminars, and support activity reporting and recommendation follow-up. Additionally, the mentor will help interns document best practices in youth sexual and reproductive health, encourage innovative approaches, and contribute to periodic reports and information notes.
Work Experience
While specific years of experience are not detailed, the role requires a strong educational background. Desirable experience includes basic knowledge of administration and project management, as well as proficiency in computer applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, social media). Fluency in French, English, and Kirundi is necessary, with English proficiency being desirable.
