In Burundi, UNFPA is implementing its 9th Cooperation Programme (2024-2027), focusing on improving reproductive health services, combating discriminatory social and gender norms, enhancing youth skills, and strengthening data utilization to accelerate transformative results. A new "Professional Knowledge Springboard" internship program has been launched to support youth career development.
Job Purpose
This role supports UNFPA Burundi's "Professional Knowledge Springboard" internship program by providing mentorship and guidance to interns focused on innovation and entrepreneurship. The mentor will help interns understand UNFPA's work, particularly in youth entrepreneurship, and guide them in research, capacity-building activities, and proposal development. The aim is to foster innovation in youth entrepreneurship initiatives, document best practices, and contribute to building a database of innovation achievements. This position is crucial for offering interns a comprehensive career development experience within the UN system and supporting UNFPA's objectives.
Responsibilities
The mentor will guide interns in familiarizing themselves with UNFPA Burundi's general operations and specifically within the Innovation and Entrepreneurship domain. Key duties include: conducting research on innovation themes applicable to entrepreneurship for young people aged 18-35; contributing to the organization and participation in capacity-building sessions on entrepreneurship culture; proposing innovative approaches for youth entrepreneurship activities; documenting entrepreneurship activities funded by UNFPA and partners, and sharing best practices. The mentor will also help establish a database of innovation achievements relevant to youth entrepreneurship and contribute to identifying and analyzing innovation and entrepreneurship opportunities, providing support in other intervention areas as needed.
Work Experience
While specific years of experience are not detailed, the role requires a Master's degree or equivalent in Innovation, Entrepreneurship, or a related field. Desirable experience includes basic knowledge of administration and project management, as well as proficiency in computer applications like Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and social media. Fluency in French and Kirundi is required, with English being desirable.
