Organizational Context

UNFPA is the United Nations sexual and reproductive health agency, committed to a world where every pregnancy is wanted, every childbirth is safe, and every young person's potential is fulfilled. In Burundi, UNFPA is implementing its 9th Cooperation Programme (2024-2027), focusing on improving reproductive health services, combating discriminatory social and gender norms, enhancing youth capabilities, and strengthening data utilization for national planning. To support its "Tremplin du Savoir Professionnel" internship program, UNFPA-Burundi seeks to recruit online professional guidance volunteers to mentor interns.

Job Purpose

This role serves to mentor interns within UNFPA Burundi's "Tremplin du Savoir Professionnel" internship program. The mentor will guide interns through their professional development, providing a comprehensive support package aligned with their career plans. This includes facilitating immersion into the UN system and the UNV program. The primary objective is to equip interns with the necessary knowledge and skills to effectively contribute to UNFPA's work, particularly in humanitarian coordination and the prevention and response to Gender-Based Violence (GBV), ensuring they gain valuable experience and support UNFPA's transformative results.

Responsibilities

The mentor will guide interns in understanding UNFPA Burundi's operations, with a specific focus on humanitarian coordination and Gender-Based Violence (GBV) initiatives. Key duties include supporting the team in organizing awareness, prevention, and response activities for GBV in affected communities. The role involves contributing to data collection, entry, and analysis related to GBV cases and referrals, as well as assisting in the preparation of monthly, narrative, and emergency reports on humanitarian response and GBV protection. The mentor will also support resource mobilization for humanitarian and GBV emergency projects and contribute to the logistical and administrative preparation of activities like workshops and campaigns. Participation in inter-agency coordination meetings, the GBV Sub-Cluster, and the Protection Cluster, including note-taking and follow-up on recommendations, is expected. Additionally, the mentor will help prepare and facilitate capacity-building workshops for staff and partners on minimum standards for GBV care in emergencies and provide support in other areas as needed.

Work Experience

While specific years of experience are not detailed, the role requires a Master's degree or equivalent in Humanitarian Affairs, Gender, or related fields. Desirable experience includes good interpersonal skills, flexibility, openness to learning, respect for diversity, and adaptability. Basic knowledge of administration and project management, along with computer literacy (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, social media), is also beneficial.

Skills

Required skills include strong interpersonal abilities, flexibility, and a willingness to learn and embrace new experiences. The candidate must demonstrate respect for diversity and cultural adaptability. Fluency in French is mandatory, with working knowledge of English being desirable. Basic knowledge of administration, project management, and computer proficiency (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, social media) are also important competencies for this role.
