UNFPA is the United Nations sexual and reproductive health agency, committed to a world where every pregnancy is wanted, every childbirth is safe, and every young person's potential is fulfilled. UNFPA Burundi is implementing its 9th Cooperation Programme (2024-2027), focusing on improving reproductive health services, strengthening national capacities to combat discriminatory social and gender norms, enhancing youth skills, and improving data utilization for national planning. To support its "Professional Knowledge Springboard" internship program for young people, UNFPA Burundi seeks to recruit online volunteer mentors.
Job Purpose
This role serves as a mentor for UNFPA Burundi's "Professional Knowledge Springboard" internship program, designed to provide comprehensive career development support to young interns. The mentor will guide interns in understanding UNFPA Burundi's work, particularly in Gender, Diversity, and Inclusion. The assignment aims to enhance the interns' professional growth by offering immersion into the UN system and UNV program. The mentor's contribution is crucial for equipping interns with practical experience, supporting their integration into the UN environment, and fostering their potential within the framework of UNFPA's transformative results.
Responsibilities
The mentor will guide interns in familiarizing themselves with UNFPA Burundi's general operations and specific work in Gender, Diversity, and Inclusion. Key duties include supporting the team in organizing community-based awareness and prevention activities for Gender-Based Violence (GBV), contributing to the collection, entry, and analysis of GBV case data and referrals, and assisting in the preparation of monthly and narrative reports on humanitarian and protection activities. The role also involves supporting resource mobilization efforts, contributing to the logistical and administrative preparation of activities like workshops and training, and participating in team and protection/GBV cluster meetings, including note-taking and follow-up on recommendations. Additionally, the mentor will participate in capacity-building workshops for staff and partners on humanitarian and GBV-related themes and provide support in other intervention areas as needed.
Work Experience
While specific years of experience are not detailed, the role requires a Master's degree or equivalent in Gender Studies, Human Rights, or a related field. Essential competencies include strong interpersonal skills, flexibility, adaptability, and a respect for diversity. Candidates must be proficient in French and Kirundi, with working knowledge of English.
