In Burundi, UNFPA is implementing its 9th Cooperation Programme (2024-2027), focusing on improving reproductive health services, combating gender discrimination, empowering youth, and enhancing data utilization for national planning. To support its "Professional Knowledge Springboard" internship program for young people, UNFPA Burundi seeks to recruit online volunteer mentors.
Job Purpose
This role aims to provide comprehensive mentorship and professional guidance to interns within UNFPA Burundi's "Professional Knowledge Springboard" program. The mentor will facilitate interns' understanding of UNFPA's work, particularly in climate and environment, and support their integration into the UN system. The objective is to enhance the interns' career development by offering immersion sessions, one-on-one coaching, and practical support. This mentorship is crucial for equipping interns with the necessary skills and knowledge to contribute effectively to UNFPA's mission and achieve the organization's transformative results, while also fostering their professional growth.
Responsibilities
The mentor will guide interns in understanding UNFPA Burundi's operations and the intersection of climate and environment with sexual and reproductive health, population dynamics, and gender-based violence. Key duties include providing technical support for integrating climate and environmental issues into the 9th Cooperation Programme, assisting in data collection and analysis on climate vulnerability, and contributing to technical notes, situation reports, and project proposals related to climate resilience. The mentor will also support advocacy and community awareness activities on climate justice and health, help prepare for working meetings and workshops, and facilitate partnerships with national environmental stakeholders. Additionally, the mentor will provide support in other areas as needed, ensuring a holistic learning experience for the interns.
Work Experience

Desirable experience includes basic knowledge of administration and project management, as well as proficiency in computer applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, social media). Fluency in French and Kirundi is required, with working knowledge of English being desirable.
