Organizational Context

UNFPA is the United Nations sexual and reproductive health agency, committed to delivering a world where every pregnancy is wanted, every childbirth is safe, and every young person's potential is fulfilled. In Burundi, UNFPA is implementing its 9th Cooperation Programme (2024-2027), focusing on improving reproductive health services, combating discriminatory social and gender norms, empowering youth, and enhancing data utilization for national planning. To support its "Professional Knowledge Springboard" internship program for young people, UNFPA Burundi seeks to recruit online volunteer mentors.

Job Purpose

This role aims to provide professional mentorship to interns within UNFPA Burundi's Administration and Human Resources sections. The mentor will guide interns in understanding UNFPA's work, particularly in HR and administrative tasks, fostering a rich and eclectic learning experience. This support is crucial for the "Professional Knowledge Springboard" internship program, designed to offer comprehensive career development guidance. By facilitating immersion into the UN system and providing practical assistance, the mentor contributes to the interns' professional growth and helps them gain valuable experience in a UN environment, aligning with UNFPA's broader objectives.

Responsibilities

The mentor will guide interns in familiarizing themselves with UNFPA Burundi's operations, focusing on administrative and human resources functions. Key duties include supporting administrative tasks, assisting with personnel file management (filing, digital archiving, database updates), preparing contracts and administrative letters, and tracking staff leave and attendance. The mentor will also support the recruitment process for consultants, manage their registration in the monitoring tool, and prepare payment certificates for consultants and interns. Additionally, the role involves participating in staff well-being and professional development initiatives and providing support in other areas as needed, ensuring a comprehensive learning experience for the interns.

Work Experience

While specific years of experience are not detailed, candidates are expected to have a foundational understanding of administration and project management. Proficiency in computer applications such as Word, Excel, and PowerPoint, along with familiarity with social media, is necessary. Experience in a professional setting, particularly within administration or human resources, would be beneficial.

Skills

Required skills include fluency in French and Kirundi, with working knowledge of English. Strong interpersonal skills, flexibility, adaptability, and respect for diversity are essential. Candidates must demonstrate basic knowledge of administration and project management, along with proficiency in common computer applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, social media).
