The United Nations Information Centre (UNIC) in Accra, part of the UN Department of Global Communications, serves as the primary source of information on the UN system in Ghana. It aims to foster public understanding of the UN's work, values, and priorities, while advocating for the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). UNIC Accra actively engages with media, civil society, academia, and youth to amplify UN messages and promote dialogue on critical global issues. The centre also champions multilingualism and youth engagement.

Job Purpose

The Digital Communications Assistant will strengthen the UNIC's digital presence and outreach, supporting its coordination role within Ghana. This role is crucial for impactful storytelling, enhancing the visibility of UN initiatives, and driving advocacy campaigns across digital platforms. The assistant will contribute to inter-agency communications coordination, ensuring coherence and impact of the UN system's collective messaging. By engaging with diverse audiences, including youth, and promoting Ghanaian languages, the position directly supports the UN's mission to foster public understanding and dialogue on peace, justice, inclusion, and sustainable development.

Responsibilities

The Digital Communications Assistant will support content creation and digital advocacy by developing and designing social media content (graphics, cards, GIFs, infographics, videos), drafting and editing news stories, press releases, and digital newsletters, and capturing/editing photographs and short videos. The role involves integrating Ghanaian languages into digital products to promote inclusivity. Responsibilities also include managing UNIC Accra's social media platforms, monitoring online engagement, preparing analytics reports, and supporting digital campaigns, particularly youth-focused initiatives. Additionally, the assistant will assist with media relations, coordinate event logistics, ensure donor visibility, produce reports on communications impact, and contribute to innovative advocacy strategies.

Work Experience

A minimum of 1 year of relevant experience is required, including digital content creation, video recording and editing, and photography. Proficiency in graphic design tools (e.g., Adobe Creative Suite, Canva) and experience managing social media platforms and web-based systems are essential. Strong computer skills, including Microsoft Office Suite, are also necessary.
