Job Purpose
This role supports IOM's field-level data collection activities under the Displacement Tracking Matrix (DTM) in earthquake-affected provinces of Türkiye. The Field Worker will contribute to generating timely and actionable data essential for informed decision-making and improved program effectiveness. Operating under the direct supervision of IOM’s Senior Project Associate and Field Coordinator, the UN Volunteer will ensure accurate and timely data gathering, adhering strictly to established methodologies, tools, and ethical standards. The assignment aims to enhance IOM's understanding of migration dynamics and support vulnerable populations in the region.
Responsibilities
The Field Worker will prepare and execute fieldwork plans in earthquake-affected provinces, conducting quantitative and qualitative interviews with host and migrant communities. Key duties include ensuring strict adherence to ethical standards such as confidentiality, informed consent, and data protection. The role requires maintaining regular communication with the IOM team, providing daily progress reports, and promptly flagging any issues or challenges encountered. Interviews must be conducted respectfully, sensitively, and in a culturally appropriate manner. The Field Worker will accurately utilize designated mobile data collection tools and platforms, submitting daily updates on progress, challenges, and field observations. Additional duties as assigned by the supervisor are also part of the role.
Work Experience
No prior experience is required. However, previous experience in field data collection, surveys, or assessments is desired. Experience working with migrants, refugees, or displaced populations is a strong advantage. Familiarity with digital data collection tools (e.g., KoboToolbox, ODK) is also desirable. Strong interpersonal and communication skills, cultural sensitivity, and adaptability to dynamic field conditions are important.
