Organizational Context

The International Organization for Migration (IOM) in Belgium supports the institutional objective of integrating migration considerations into economic, investment, and private sector engagement. This assignment will analyze how migration issues are reflected in business and investment assessments and sustainability reporting frameworks. The findings will help IOM identify gaps, demonstrate migration's materiality to investment performance and social sustainability, and enhance engagement with governments, businesses, and financial institutions.

Job Purpose

This assignment aims to strengthen the integration of migration considerations into economic and investment frameworks by analyzing their mainstreaming in EU business and investment assessments and sustainability reporting. The analysis will provide evidence on how issues like labour mobility, migrant workers, displacement, skills, recruitment, and community impacts are addressed. The findings will be crucial for IOM to identify existing gaps, highlight the relevance of migration to investment performance and social sustainability, and inform engagement strategies with governments, businesses, and financial institutions. The task involves desk research and mapping to achieve these objectives.

Responsibilities

The Online Volunteers will support an assessment of migration mainstreaming in EU business and investment assessments and sustainability reporting. Key responsibilities include: agreeing on the scope, research questions, and methodology; identifying and reviewing relevant documents; conducting desk-based research to assess how migration considerations are reflected; developing an Excel database to summarize findings; analyzing the prevalence and type of migration mainstreaming; preparing a concise analytical report detailing findings on migration considerations in assessments; and creating a presentation of the methodology, findings, and implications. Volunteers will work closely with a Senior Partnerships Officer, jointly reviewing approximately 1,150 assessments.

Work Experience

Demonstrated experience in desk research, qualitative analysis, or policy analysis is required. Experience using Excel for data organization and analysis is necessary. Familiarity with migration, labour mobility, business and human rights, sustainability, or responsible business conduct is advantageous. Previous experience with EU policies or international organizations is a plus.

Skills

Strong analytical and critical thinking skills are essential, including the ability to identify patterns, gaps, and differences in large datasets. Excellent written English and the ability to synthesize complex information clearly and concisely are required. Proficiency in using Excel or similar tools for qualitative data organization and analysis is necessary. A working knowledge of English is mandatory.
