Job Purpose
The purpose of this assignment is to provide vital interpretation services in Honduran Sign Language (LESHO) during virtual accompaniment sessions. UN Women Bolivia, as the Regional Hub for Gender, Environment, and Climate Justice, is implementing a program that supports civil society organizations in Latin America and the Caribbean. These sessions are crucial for monitoring project implementation, clarifying doubts, and providing guidance. The interpretation will ensure the full and effective participation of representatives from a deaf-led organization in Honduras, fostering inclusivity and accessibility in discussions related to gender, environment, and climate change.
Responsibilities
Selected volunteers will provide bidirectional interpretation between Spanish and Honduran Sign Language (LESHO) during weekly virtual accompaniment meetings between UN Women Bolivia and supported organizations. These meetings occur every Thursday from 10:00 to 11:00 (La Paz time), with interpretation shared in 30-minute blocks. Volunteers will also interpret in up to two additional virtual meetings per week with the Honduran deaf organization, each lasting a maximum of one hour, as requested and coordinated. All tasks must be performed adhering to principles of confidentiality, equality, diversity, inclusion, and non-discrimination. Upon completion, volunteers will submit a brief report detailing lessons learned and practical recommendations to improve communication accessibility for deaf individuals in future virtual engagements.
Work Experience
Required experience includes fluency in Honduran Sign Language (LESHO) and basic knowledge of gender equality, women's rights, and their connection to environment and climate change. Experience in real-time LESHO interpretation, whether in-person or virtual, is essential. Proficiency with video conferencing platforms like Microsoft Teams and Zoom is also necessary.
