UNV
Organizational Context
The United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) operates in approximately 170 countries, focusing on poverty eradication, reducing inequalities, and building resilience to support sustainable progress and the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals. Through the Agenda 2063 Academy, UNDP collaborates with partners to foster learning and practice around Africa's long-term transformation, emphasizing the role of 'Power Spaces' in shaping the continent's future.
Job Purpose
This seven-week online traineeship, 'Agenda 2063 in Power Spaces - Cohort 3,' aims to transform participants' understanding of Agenda 2063 from a continental framework into actionable contributions. It focuses on strengthening individual agency by helping participants identify and leverage their 'Power Spaces'-environments where decisions are made and value is created. The program guides participants through developing seven leadership tools, enabling them to articulate their value, envision a desired future, identify necessary changes, define leadership values and routines, and practice continuous review and recommitment for sustained impact towards Africa's transformation.
Responsibilities
Online Volunteers will engage with the 'Agenda 2063 in Power Spaces - Cohort 3' learning materials, including the Reader and associated resources. They will support participant engagement throughout the seven-week traineeship by clarifying weekly concepts, questions, and exercises. Volunteers will participate in small-group learning conversations, encouraging participants to apply the learned tools to their own 'Power Spaces' rather than merely reciting course content. Additionally, they will contribute to a structured end-of-cohort review, identifying effective elements and areas for improvement in future cohorts. The assignment requires remote work and does not necessitate expertise in all aspects of Agenda 2063, but rather curiosity, disciplined engagement, and the ability to support others in contextualizing ideas.
Work Experience
Candidates should demonstrate a strong interest in Agenda 2063, African development, leadership, development practice, public policy, business, education, or community development. Required experience includes the ability to critically engage with learning materials, strong written and interpersonal communication skills, the capacity to provide concise and constructive feedback, and a commitment to completing the assignment throughout the cohort period.
Skills
Key competencies include strong written and interpersonal communication skills, the ability to provide concise and constructive feedback, and a commitment to the assignment. The role requires curiosity, disciplined engagement with learning materials, and the ability to support others in translating ideas into their own contexts.
