Organizational Context

UN Women (UNW) is dedicated to gender equality and the empowerment of women and girls globally. In the State of Palestine, UN Women has been active since 1997, focusing on advancing gender equality in line with national priorities. The office supports mainstreaming gender in governance, peace, and security; enhances women's economic security and rights; and promotes women's rights and protection against violence, operating within the specific context of Palestine.

Job Purpose

This role supports the UN Women Palestine Communications team by developing compelling human-interest stories and written content. The volunteer will gather information through virtual interviews with beneficiaries and partners in Gaza and the West Bank. The content produced will be used to promote gender equality, highlight the experiences and leadership of Palestinian women and girls, and communicate programme results on UN Women’s website and social media platforms, contributing to advocacy efforts.

Responsibilities

The volunteer will conduct virtual interviews in Arabic and/or English with beneficiaries and partners in Gaza and the West Bank. Responsibilities include supporting the development of human-interest stories and profiles, drafting and editing communications materials in both Arabic and English, and identifying strong story angles and key messages. The role involves transforming interview and programme information into engaging web and social media content, adapting stories into various formats (website, social media posts, captions, video scripts), and supporting copywriting, editing, and proofreading. The volunteer will also contribute to communications and advocacy campaigns.

Work Experience

Required experience includes strong writing, editing, and storytelling skills in Arabic and English. The ability to identify compelling stories, key messages, and quotes is necessary. Experience in interviewing and developing human-interest stories, writing engaging content for diverse audiences, and understanding social media adaptation is required. Familiarity with basic design/video editing tools like Canva or CapCut is desirable.

Skills

Key skills include excellent writing, editing, and storytelling abilities in Arabic and English. The volunteer must be adept at conducting interviews, identifying strong narrative elements, and adapting content for various digital platforms. Strong communication, creativity, and the ability to work independently and meet deadlines are essential. Familiarity with social media dynamics and basic design/video editing tools is beneficial.
