Organizational Context

The Department of Peace Operations (DPO), through its Integrated Training Service (ITS) and the Light Coordination Mechanism (LCM), is enhancing the UN Deployment Review Mobile Application. This application aids uniformed personnel in peace operations by providing tools to document experiences and share lessons learned. The revamp focuses on user experience and digital content, including pocket cards for peacekeeper performance, safety, and security.

Job Purpose

The Online Volunteer will support the LCM in revamping the UN Deployment Review Mobile Application by designing and laying out a series of pocket cards. These cards will provide peacekeepers with quick access to essential guidance on critical topics such as Protection of Civilians, Child Protection, and Sexual Violence. The role involves creating visually appealing, accessible, and user-friendly materials that reinforce key principles and procedures, ultimately contributing to informed decision-making and improved operational performance in UN peace operations.

Responsibilities

Design and format up to ten pocket cards, each ranging from one to five pages, ensuring compliance with UN corporate branding and design guidelines. Collaborate closely with the LCM team and designated UN focal points to integrate content accurately. Create visually appealing, accessible, and user-friendly layouts that enhance readability and usability for peacekeepers. Incorporate feedback from the LCM team and subject-matter experts throughout the design process. Prepare final design files in formats suitable for digital dissemination via the mobile application. This role offers an opportunity to collaborate across DPO and gain insight into lessons-learning initiatives supporting troop and police-contributing countries.

Work Experience

Requires professional experience in graphic design, including document layout, publication design, or visual communication. Proficiency in graphic design software (e.g., Adobe InDesign, Illustrator, Photoshop, Canva) is essential. Experience designing materials for international organizations is desirable. Access to professional graphic design software is preferred.
