Organizational Context
The Pan American Health Organization/World Health Organization (PAHO/WHO) is the specialized health agency for the Americas, working with 38 countries and territories to strengthen health systems, respond to health emergencies, and improve access to essential health services. In Bolivia, PAHO/OMS supports the Ministry of Health and Sports in developing a national roadmap to accelerate and sustain the elimination of priority diseases. This initiative addresses challenges like territorial inequalities and fragmented interventions, aiming for a coordinated and strategic response.
Job Purpose
This role supports PAHO/OMS and the Ministry of Health and Sports in Bolivia in developing a national roadmap for disease elimination. The initiative focuses on strengthening primary healthcare, epidemiological surveillance, timely diagnosis, treatment access, immunization, community participation, and addressing social and environmental health determinants. The volunteer will contribute to identifying priority diseases, setting goals, defining strategies, and establishing monitoring mechanisms. The objective is to facilitate articulation between technical programs, health system management levels, and strategic partners, ensuring a participatory and viable roadmap aligned with national priorities and regional elimination commitments.
Responsibilities
The UN Volunteer will support the collection, review, and systematization of technical, epidemiological, programmatic, and regulatory information for the national disease elimination roadmap. This includes developing and updating matrices to identify prioritized diseases, their epidemiological status, existing interventions, gaps, goals, indicators, responsibilities, and implementation timelines. The volunteer will assist in identifying and analyzing technical, operational, institutional, and territorial gaps. They will participate in technical meetings, workshops, and consultations with the Ministry of Health, subnational entities, PAHO/OMS, and other strategic actors. Responsibilities also include supporting the logistical and technical organization of meetings, preparing agendas, presentations, and working documents, and drafting minutes and reports. The volunteer will track agreements and commitments, contribute to drafting and consolidating roadmap components, and facilitate coordination and information exchange among stakeholders. Periodic progress reports are also required.
Work Experience
No specific experience is required. However, one year of general experience is beneficial. Previous experience in managing statistical data, facilitating workshops, or similar administrative functions is an advantage. Basic computer skills (Microsoft Office, email, databases) and organizational abilities are expected.
