Mapping Civil Society Organizations Using Martial Arts as a Tool for the SDGs
Organizational Context
The Jadir Taekwondo Association (AJTKD) is a Brazilian non-profit organization established in 2000. It focuses on using sports, cultural, social, and environmental projects to support vulnerable children and youth. AJTKD coordinates the international Martial Arts Coalition for Sustainable Development (MCS), connecting organizations that leverage martial arts for the Sustainable Development Goals and the 2030 Agenda. This initiative aims to strengthen global connections between grassroots sports and sustainable development efforts.
Job Purpose
This assignment supports AJTKD's goal to understand the landscape of organizations using martial arts and sport for sustainable development. The volunteer will conduct research to map these entities globally, identifying their activities and contributions. The resulting data will help AJTKD identify potential partners for knowledge exchange, networking, and collaboration. This research is crucial for strengthening the connections between grassroots sports initiatives and the broader sustainable development community, contributing to the MCS's objective of fostering global partnerships for the SDGs.
Responsibilities
The volunteer will conduct online research to identify and document civil society organizations, clubs, sport-for-development initiatives, and community groups worldwide that utilize martial arts and sport for sustainable development. Key tasks include mapping these organizations by region, type, and thematic focus; reviewing public information to assess their activities and SDG contributions; and recording data in a structured database. Volunteers will identify organizations potentially aligned with the Martial Arts Coalition for Sustainable Development (MCS) and provide a rationale for their relevance. Findings will be organized into a prioritized list for the AJTKD team. The role focuses on research and analysis, not direct contact with organizations.
