Organizational Context
The United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP), established in 1972 and headquartered in Nairobi, Kenya, serves as the global authority on the environmental agenda. UNEP promotes sustainable development's environmental dimension within the UN system and advocates for the global environment. This assignment is within the UN Environment Management Group (EMG) Secretariat, which supports over fifty UN entities globally under a system-wide mandate, hosted by UNEP.
Job Purpose
This role within the UN Environment Management Group (EMG) Secretariat in Nairobi will contribute to enhancing the technical, programmatic, and operational work through innovation and technological advancement. The incumbent will focus on improving the use and development of digital tools, managing information effectively, and acquiring technical knowledge. Key contributions include consolidating data sources into an analytics platform, developing tools for policy automation, and training colleagues. The position aims to strengthen the EMG's capacity and support the development and implementation of UN Common approaches, ensuring data integrity and facilitating informed decision-making across UN entities.
Responsibilities
The Policy Systems Analyst will enhance the EMG Secretariat's work by developing and implementing digital tools, methodologies, and approaches such as repositories, templates, and reporting tools. This involves designing and managing data collection, analysis, and dissemination, presenting information through visualizations, and producing high-quality reports, presentations, and meeting notes. Responsibilities also include information management, such as curating data, maintaining records, and managing data storage and processing. The role requires content creation for websites and newsletters, and facilitating the use of advanced analytical tools. Additionally, the incumbent will train colleagues on data collection and AI tools, stay updated on technological advancements, and support EMG members' access to relevant tools and databases.
Work Experience
Requires at least three years of professional experience in environmental policy analysis, content creation, report production, software applications, and data management at the national or international level. Experience with environmental policy data analysis tools, platforms, and dashboards is essential. Demonstrated ability to design data collection templates and surveys, produce visual and analytical content for various platforms, and utilize AI for analysis and reporting is needed. Proficiency in at least four UN-recognized tools like Python, Power BI, or SharePoint is required.
