Job Purpose
This online volunteer assignment supports UNICEF Bolivia's efforts to strengthen student leadership and participation. Following the initial editing phase, the volunteer will complete the text editing of the second part of the Student Leadership Guide. This involves a comprehensive review, ensuring consistency in inclusive language and a rights-based approach, with a respectful tone suitable for adolescents. The goal is to finalize the guide, making it a valuable resource for empowering young leaders and fostering their engagement in educational and community initiatives, aligning with UNICEF's mandate to protect and promote children's rights.
Responsibilities
The online volunteer will conduct a thorough review of the Student Leadership Guide, with a specific focus on Chapter 4. This includes verifying the consistency of inclusive language and the rights-based approach, ensuring the tone is respectful and appropriate for an adolescent audience. The volunteer will deliver two versions of the edited document: one with tracked changes to show all modifications and a final clean version. Additionally, the volunteer is expected to document key editorial decisions made during the review process, providing clarity and a record of the work undertaken.
Work Experience
Required experience includes proven expertise in editing, stylistic correction, and proofreading in Spanish, preferably with long documents like reports, guides, or manuals. Proficiency in Microsoft Word (styles, table of contents, track changes) or Google Docs is essential. Familiarity with clear and inclusive language, previous experience with documents related to youth education or development, and knowledge of UN editorial guidelines are also required.
Skills
Key skills include advanced proficiency in Spanish (native level desirable), strong editing, stylistic correction, and proofreading abilities. The volunteer must be adept at using Microsoft Word or Google Docs for editing, including features like track changes. Knowledge of clear and inclusive language, experience with youth-focused or development documents, and familiarity with UN editorial standards are important. The ability to meet deadlines and communicate asynchronously is also crucial.
