Organizational Context
UN-Habitat is the UN agency for sustainable urbanization, promoting inclusive, safe, resilient, and sustainable cities and communities. Its sub-regional office in Kinshasa coordinates programs across Central Africa, focusing on land governance, urban planning, housing, climate resilience, and investment mobilization. The office is currently expanding its program portfolio, particularly in land governance, and is implementing a land reform support program in the DRC funded by CAFI, aiming to modernize the national land system and promote sustainable natural resource management.
Job Purpose
This role provides strategic support to the Head of the Sub-regional Office in Kinshasa, focusing on resource mobilization, partnership development, project preparation, and regional initiative organization. The volunteer will contribute to strengthening UN-Habitat's presence and impact in Central Africa by identifying funding opportunities, developing project proposals, and coordinating key programs like the CAFI land reform initiative. A significant aspect of the role involves preparing for and supporting a sub-regional symposium on land governance, fostering dialogue and cooperation among diverse stakeholders to advance land reform efforts across the region.
Responsibilities
The Volunteer will support resource mobilization and partnership development by planning strategic meetings, implementing resource mobilization strategies, monitoring funding calls, maintaining a donor database, identifying financing opportunities, and preparing funding proposals. They will also assist in project development by conducting literature reviews, drafting concept notes and proposals, preparing logical frameworks, and coordinating technical contributions. Support for the CAFI land reform program includes reporting, coordinating meetings, monitoring risks and gender aspects, and preparing for a sub-regional symposium on land governance. Additionally, the role involves strategic support to the office head, including preparing briefings, official correspondence, speeches, and coordinating follow-up on strategic decisions and institutional relations.
Work Experience
A minimum of 3 years of progressive professional experience is required in areas such as administration, institutional coordination, human resources management, performance monitoring, or partner relations. Experience in program support, stakeholder coordination, partnership agreement management, and administrative compliance is essential. Experience organizing high-level meetings in multicultural settings, knowledge management, strategic reporting, and using digital tools for communication is also valuable. Experience with UN agencies or international organizations is an asset.
Skills
Key skills include excellent written and oral communication in French, strong interpersonal and teamwork abilities for collaboration with diverse partners, and excellent organizational skills for task prioritization and deadline management. Technical proficiency in office software (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and administrative management tools is necessary, along with the ability to use AI tools for reporting. Digital communication skills for promoting activities via social media and adaptability to different interlocutors are important. Integrity, professionalism, responsibility, results-orientation, initiative, and the ability to work under pressure are also crucial.
