Communications Associate for Gender & Gender-Based Violence (GBV)

Organizational Context

UNFPA is the lead UN agency dedicated to sexual and reproductive health and rights, aiming to end preventable maternal deaths, unmet need for family planning, and gender-based violence (GBV). UNFPA Cambodia's Country Programme emphasizes gender equality, addressing harmful social norms, and expanding its GBV portfolio. This assignment supports the ACCESS 2 Program, funded by the Australian Government, to strengthen GBV prevention and services in Cambodia, a country where GBV is significantly under-reported due to cultural norms.

Job Purpose

This UN Volunteer assignment supports UNFPA Cambodia's Gender and GBV programme, specifically the ACCESS 2 Program focused on preventing and coordinating GBV services. The role is crucial for advancing UNFPA's transformative result of ending gender-based violence and harmful practices. The Communications Associate will contribute to raising awareness and informing the public, donors, and stakeholders about UNFPA's work in this critical area. By enhancing communication strategies and outreach, the volunteer will help address the pervasive issue of GBV in Cambodia, contributing to progress in gender equality and the protection of vulnerable populations.

Responsibilities

The Communications Associate for Gender & GBV will enhance social media presence with interactive and creative multimedia content across platforms like Facebook, X, YouTube, and TikTok. Responsibilities include providing accurate Khmer translation and interpretation for GBV-related products and events, ensuring sensitivity and adherence to global standards. The associate will support GBV team outreach activities, campaigns, and missions, assisting with communications, visibility, and crafting key messages, stories, and case studies. This includes producing and translating promotional materials such as factsheets and brochures. The role also involves tracking social media trends on GBV, supporting partnership maintenance, and assisting in developing and implementing communications products, ensuring accuracy in translated terminology and content.

Work Experience

A minimum of 2 years of relevant experience in media communication, journalism, advocacy, or social development and gender project support is required. Experience with Microsoft Office applications is necessary, while knowledge of design programs like Canva or Photoshop is advantageous. Familiarity with communication applications (Zoom, Teams) and social media platforms is also beneficial.

Strong communication, interpersonal, and problem-solving skills are essential, along with the ability to work effectively under pressure and in multicultural environments. The role requires ethical conduct, cultural sensitivity, and the ability to work inclusively and collaboratively.
