The Information Technology Management (ITM) unit within WHO South Africa manages cloud infrastructure and supports technical clusters in application deployment and maintenance.

Job Purpose

The Systems Administrator will support the Information Technology Management (ITM) unit at WHO South Africa. This role involves provisioning, configuring, and maintaining cloud infrastructure, including virtual machines and Kubernetes clusters. The incumbent will monitor system performance, manage identity and access, and execute backup and disaster recovery procedures. Key responsibilities include supporting infrastructure-as-code, identifying and resolving cost anomalies, and leading deployment working sessions with developers. The position also requires providing first-level support to Azure users and maintaining comprehensive documentation to ensure operational continuity.

Responsibilities

Provision, configure, and maintain cloud infrastructure (App Service plans, virtual networks, virtual machines, Kubernetes clusters). Monitor system performance, availability, and security events, escalating and resolving issues per established standards. Manage Identity and Access Management (IAM), security groups, and access controls, conducting periodic reviews to enforce least privilege. Execute backup, patching, and disaster recovery procedures. Support infrastructure-as-code, deployment changes, and version control. Identify and report on orphaned resources and cost anomalies, coordinating remediation with stakeholders. Plan and lead deployment working sessions, including architecture reviews and cybersecurity risk assessments. Identify and manage upgrades/migrations for application frameworks and infrastructure components. Provide first-level support to Azure users for VPN, Bastion, permissions, and DevOps processes. Maintain up-to-date documentation of configurations, incidents, and procedures.

Work Experience

Requires 7 years of relevant experience in Systems Administration or related areas, including at least 3 years of hands-on experience in cloud infrastructure administration. Proficiency in Microsoft Azure cloud platform is expected, covering cloud governance, compliance auditing, cost optimization, security, lifecycle management, troubleshooting, DevOps practices, and networking. Strong communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills are essential for effective collaboration and performance in a challenging, multicultural environment.
