Development Coordinator
Organizational Context
UN-Habitat, the UN agency for human settlements, promotes sustainable towns and cities to ensure adequate shelter for all. It coordinates UN system activities in human settlements, collaborating with governments and partners to implement the SDGs, particularly Goal 11. UN-Habitat manages the human settlements chapter of Agenda 21 and monitors the New Urban Agenda. The Land, Housing and Informal Settlements Section (LHISS) focuses on equitable housing access, slum transformation, and land tenure security for vulnerable communities, leveraging international partnerships.
Job Purpose
This role supports the Land, Housing and Informal Settlements Section (LHISS) at UN-Habitat, focusing on developing and implementing approaches for equitable housing access, slum transformation, and land tenure security, especially for vulnerable populations in crisis-affected areas. The position involves coordinating UN-Habitat's contributions to intergovernmental processes like the Open-Ended Intergovernmental Working Group on Adequate Housing for All and engaging with diverse stakeholders. The incumbent will also contribute to high-level meetings, lead knowledge development on climate-resilient housing, and manage donor relations, ensuring programmatic coherence and visibility of partnerships, particularly with Japanese institutions.
Responsibilities
The UN Volunteer will facilitate strategic coordination between UN-Habitat headquarters, regional offices, and country offices to ensure programmatic coherence and knowledge exchange on climate-resilient housing and displacement. Responsibilities include coordinating UN-Habitat's contributions to the Open-Ended Intergovernmental Expert Working Group (OEWG-H3) on Adequate Housing for All and supporting engagement within the Global Humanitarian Cluster architecture for Shelter, Housing, Land, and Property rights. The role involves engaging with diverse stakeholders to promote policy coherence and knowledge exchange, strengthening collaboration with JICA and Japanese institutions, and identifying new partnerships and funding opportunities. Additionally, the volunteer will contribute to planning high-level meetings, lead the design and implementation of housing resilience programs, develop knowledge materials, and manage donor relations through regular updates and reporting.
Work Experience
Requires 3-5 years of experience in project design, implementation, and knowledge material development related to housing, informal settlements, climate resilience, and displacement. Experience with national or international development/humanitarian organizations in developing or crisis-affected contexts is an asset. Strong analytical and English writing skills are essential. Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint is required. Experience integrating AI solutions for analysis and communication is desirable.
