Job Purpose
The Monitoring and Evaluation Specialist will enhance the effectiveness of biodiversity conservation, ecosystem restoration, and nursery management interventions by ensuring robust monitoring, reporting, and results tracking. This role is crucial within the environmental and resilience programming context, focusing on restoring degraded ecosystems and conserving biodiversity. The specialist will develop and implement monitoring tools, track indicators, conduct field verifications, and analyze data to assess project progress, quality, and impact. By contributing to data collection, validation, performance monitoring, and knowledge management, the volunteer will strengthen evidence-based decision-making, improve accountability, and support adaptive management for better environmental outcomes.
Responsibilities
Under the guidance of the Climate Governance Specialist, the International UN Volunteer will support monitoring and planning by developing and implementing M&E plans, indicators, and tracking tools for biodiversity and nursery activities, and maintaining results frameworks and reporting systems. Responsibilities include data collection and field monitoring through developing data collection tools, gathering quantitative and qualitative data from various sources, conducting field visits for progress monitoring and result validation, and tracking nursery establishment and restoration activities. The role involves data management and analysis, including consolidating, organizing, and maintaining project data, supporting data cleaning and quality assurance, analyzing data for trends and gaps, and preparing analytical reports and visualizations. Furthermore, the volunteer will be responsible for results tracking and reporting, monitoring progress against targets, supporting the preparation of progress and donor reports, and verifying outputs against field evidence. Finally, the role includes knowledge management and coordination, documenting lessons learned and best practices, supporting the creation of knowledge products, and strengthening coordination among project teams, partners, and stakeholders.
Work Experience
A minimum of three years of relevant professional experience is required, specifically in Monitoring and Evaluation. Proficiency in MS Office applications and analytical software, strong analytical and writing skills for data interpretation and presentation, and experience in data collection, particularly in the Pacific region or Solomon Islands, are highly desirable. Experience working effectively in multicultural environments and a demonstrated ability to perform under stress are also important.
