The OHCHR New York Office focuses on communications and advocacy, aiming to increase visibility for its work through social media engagement.

Job Purpose

This Online UN Volunteer role supports the OHCHR New York Office's communications and advocacy efforts by creating engaging social media content. Working closely with the Public Information Officer, the volunteer will contribute to enhancing the visibility of the UN Human Rights Office's activities in New York. The primary contribution will be the design and production of visual materials, including social media assets and event graphics, to effectively communicate the OHCHR's mission and impact to a wider audience.

Responsibilities

Under the guidance of the Public Information Officer and in collaboration with colleagues, the Online Volunteer will produce visual communications materials. Key duties include creating draft designs based on communication requirements, discussing concepts, and revising visual products according to feedback and specifications. The volunteer will be responsible for designing and laying out assets for social media and events, aiming to produce up to five visual graphic designs during the assignment. All outputs must adhere to OHCHR's visual identity and branding guidelines.

Work Experience

Professional experience in graphic design is required, with prior experience in designing document layouts. Experience in video editing and motion graphics animation is considered an asset. At least two years of relevant professional experience in multi-media and communication is desirable. A strong background in media and communications tools, particularly for communication campaigns, is advantageous.

Skills

Proficiency in graphic design applications is essential. Excellent written and verbal communication skills, strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and the ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines are required. Proficiency in Microsoft Office (including PowerPoint) and design software is preferred. The ability to work independently while possessing strong interpersonal skills is also important.
