Job Purpose
The Education Officer will support the planning, implementation, and monitoring of education activities within the UNICEF-WFP Joint Resilience Programme (JRP) in Galmudug, Somalia. Based in Dhusamareb and Galkayo, the role contributes to programme delivery across 51 targeted schools. Working under UNICEF's supervision and in collaboration with local authorities, WFP, partners, and communities, the officer will ensure timely and coordinated delivery of JRP education results. A key aspect of the role is strengthening community mobilization and inter-sectoral collaboration to overcome barriers to children's education access, participation, and completion.
Responsibilities
The Education Officer will support the planning, implementation, monitoring, and reporting of JRP education activities, ensuring alignment with workplans and budgets. This includes engaging with the Ministry of Education and district offices for joint planning and follow-up. The role involves close collaboration with WFP, implementing partners, schools, and Community Education Committees to facilitate timely activity delivery. Responsibilities also include collecting, verifying, and analyzing programme data for reporting, conducting field monitoring visits to assess progress and identify risks, and supporting the preparation of various programme documents. The officer will monitor partner deliverables, provide technical support for inclusive and risk-informed education programming, and lead community mobilization efforts to promote school enrolment, attendance, and retention. Additionally, the role involves strengthening community engagement, coordinating with health and nutrition sectors, and supporting education coordination and capacity-building activities.
Work Experience
Requires at least three years of relevant professional experience in education programming, community mobilization, or community-based programme implementation. Demonstrated experience working with government counterparts, schools, and community structures to support children's education is essential. The ability to collect, analyze, and present programme data, along with strong communication and coordination skills for a multicultural environment, is necessary. Proficiency in standard office applications is also required.
