Job Purpose
This UN Volunteer assignment supports UNDP's mission in Uzbekistan by promoting sustainable and inclusive development in the Aral Sea region. The role focuses on shifting assistance from production-oriented to market- and export-driven development within Karakalpakstan's agricultural sector. Key objectives include identifying high-potential export products, enhancing compliance with international standards, strengthening market linkages, and facilitating access to regional and international markets. The ultimate goal is to boost economic diversification, create green jobs, increase rural incomes, and build community resilience to climate and economic shocks through improved water governance and climate-resilient agricultural practices.
Responsibilities
The Export Development and Promotion Specialist will assess promising export markets by analyzing international regulations, quality requirements, and consumer preferences for Karakalpakstan's agricultural products. This includes identifying niche products with strong export potential and preparing market assessment reports with actionable recommendations for market access and competitiveness. The specialist will also evaluate local agricultural production capacity and export readiness, identifying constraints across value chains and proposing solutions. Capacity gaps among local stakeholders regarding climate-smart agriculture, post-harvest handling, quality standards, and export marketing will be assessed, with recommendations for targeted interventions. Finally, the role involves developing comprehensive export market strategies, branding concepts, and promotion roadmaps for priority agricultural products, aiming to enhance their international competitiveness and facilitate sustainable market access.
Work Experience
A minimum of three years of professional experience in export development/promotion, international business, or marketing/branding is required. Experience with Central Asian countries, the UN, or other international development organizations is considered an asset. Proficiency in MS Office applications and database management is expected.

The role requires strong planning, organizing, and problem-solving skills, with the ability to manage workload effectively under pressure.
