Organizational Context
The World Health Organization (WHO) is the UN's global health authority. Its Regional Office for the Eastern Mediterranean serves 21 Member States and occupied Palestinian territory, covering nearly 679 million people. This assignment operates within the context of strengthening national action plans on Antimicrobial Resistance (AMR) by improving the analysis and usability of country-reported data from the WHO TrACSS platform.
Job Purpose
This assignment aims to enhance the analysis and usability of country-reported data on Antimicrobial Resistance (AMR) from the WHO TrACSS platform for countries in the Eastern Mediterranean Region. The volunteer will contribute to strengthening the implementation of the AMR action plan by processing and analyzing data. This role offers a valuable opportunity to apply data analysis skills to a critical global health challenge, learn from WHO experts, and collaborate with regional professionals, thereby gaining practical experience in AMR and public health data systems.
Responsibilities
Ten online volunteers will support the AMR-IPC-One Health Unit at the WHO Eastern Mediterranean Regional Office. Key duties include extracting data from PDF files submitted by countries to the TrACSS platform, cleaning and structuring these datasets for selected indicators, and generating analytical outputs such as tables and visualizations. Volunteers will also summarize key findings in short reports, compare current data with previous years, and create a data dashboard. Documenting the analysis workflow is crucial for capacity building and future reference. Final deliverables include cleaned datasets, analytical outputs, a summary report, a dashboard, and workflow documentation.
Work Experience
Required experience includes a background in public health, microbiology, epidemiology, nursing, veterinary science, engineering, medicine, allied health sciences, or data science. Proficiency in data cleaning, visualization, and statistical analysis is essential. Familiarity with statistical packages for health data is also required.
