Organizational Context

The United Nations World Food Programme (WFP) is the world's leading humanitarian organization fighting hunger, assisting millions annually across 83 countries. WFP provides food assistance in emergencies and works with communities to improve nutrition and build resilience. In Bolivia, WFP supports food and nutrition security, enhances the resilience of vulnerable communities, and strengthens emergency preparedness and response through technical assistance and capacity building.

Job Purpose

The UN Volunteer will support the World Food Programme (WFP) in Bolivia by contributing to the strengthening of food and nutrition security, the resilience of vulnerable communities, and emergency preparedness and response. This role involves providing technical assistance, strengthening institutional capacities, and implementing programs focused on food security emergencies, disaster risk management, and sustainable livelihoods. The volunteer's efforts will directly contribute to improving the living conditions of the most vulnerable populations and promoting sustainable solutions aligned with national priorities and the Sustainable Development Goals.

Responsibilities

Under the supervision of the Programme Officer, the UN Volunteer will plan, coordinate, and implement emergency response and integrated risk management operational plans, ensuring adherence to WFP standards and local context adaptation. This includes conducting needs assessments, identifying priority populations, and applying targeting criteria for effective response. The volunteer will contribute to developing contingency plans, risk analyses, and anticipatory actions. Key duties involve coordinating field teams for emergency project implementation, preparing reports and technical documents for country, regional, and headquarters offices, and facilitating coordination with external partners. The role also entails monitoring emergency activities, ensuring compliance with deadlines and accountability standards, and contributing to monitoring and evaluation efforts to identify lessons learned. Integration of cross-cutting themes such as accountability, gender, and protection for vulnerable populations is essential. The volunteer will lead emergency distributions and support strategic objectives related to emergency response and complementary strategic goals.

Work Experience

A minimum of 5 years of work experience post-academic title is required. This includes at least 3 years of specific experience in development projects related to emergency response and/or risk management. Experience in participatory processes, data collection, report formulation, and database management is needed. Familiarity with national public policy on emergencies and risk management, office software (Word, Excel, PowerPoint), and database/tracking systems is also required. Experience with logical frameworks, indicators, and budgets is beneficial.
